Smog Smog Go Away

                                                October 8th - Burrito Run - 65km

At least the lights look pretty cool in the city...

Bad day for riding to say the least...the weather forecast was sunny all day. The sun was out there, just covered by a thick layer of pollution.

Rained early in the morning, which did nothing to stop the growth of today's pollution levels. They steadily rose from about 270 this morning to 431.

Usual morning route, with a twist on the return trip. Return trip took me through the Zhonguancun electric district, famous for it's electrical device shops and what not.

Traffic was ok at the beginning, but got worse as people began parking in the road, and "creating" new parking spots...such a safety hazard. Not to mention the majority of taxi drivers, scooters, and pedestrians moving around aimlessly, always looking in the wrong direction.

Thank the heavens for my Respro mask. I upgraded from the Respro Sportsa, after it began to fall apart on me. Currently using the top-of-the-line Cinqro mask. http://respro.com/store/product/cinqro-mask
(Need to create a page for gear reviews).

Stopped in the CBD area of Beijing for dinner at Lucky Lopez. Definitely one of the best food values you can get here. I've also been craving a burrito for the whole day. The restaurant is clean, food is clean, service is fast, and price is very reasonable. (I should make a page for restaurant reviews as well.)
Pork Burrito...only 24 RMB!

  1. I heard that Beijing air has been the worst last few weeks..12 times worse than Japanese...I can't believe Beijing just held the Beijing International Marathon under that condition....I worry about your health, but I hope the best mask you have is protecting you well..!! China is going through lots of difficulties in politics, air, economy...I don't think their future is bright, I don't know..

  2. It must have been a big embarrassment for the country after the marathon. I heard some people decided not to run it too....
They have the big APEC meeting coming up later this week, so they are shutting down a lot of businesses, especially the ones creating a lot of pollution. It's very funny watching them set things up to get ready for this meeting...they want the other countries to only see what they want them to see, but after its done, the whole city will go back to it's usual, dirty and noisy state.
